easyWill FAQ What is the process for making a Will using your easyWill service? You can make a legal Will in minutes. Please go to the Make a Legal Will page for an overview of the process. You can review the entire process before you decide to make a Will. How do I sign my Will? To make your Will legal, you need to sign it in the presence of two adult witnesses. Each witness must then sign your Will. Any two adults will do (friends, neighbours, coworkers, etc. as long as they are not beneficiaries of your Will or the spouse of a beneficiary). You do not need a lawyer or notary to make your Will "legal". Click Here for the detailed Will Signing Instructions. Is an easyWill Will "Legal"? Yes. The Wills we prepare are valid legal Wills as long as the Will maker signs it properly and has their signature witnessed by two adults. Do I have to get my Will "Notarized"? No. You should not try to have a lawyer or notary witness your Will or have it "notarized". All you need to do is sign your Will and have your signature witnessed by two adults in accordance with the Will Signing Instructions we will send along with your Will. Do I send my Will back to you for storage? No. We do not store original Wills. You are responsible for the safe keeping of your original Will. Where should I keep my Will? We recommend that once you sign your Will that you keep the original in your home along with your other important documents. You can also store it in a safe deposit box, just make sure your executor will be able to find it. We also recommend that you make several copies of your Will after you have signed it and give a copy to your executor(s) and adult beneficiaries. This way if your original Will is lost, at least there will be a copy around to tell your executor and beneficiaries what you want. If your executor is not able to find your original Will, he or she should be able to use a copy of your Will to look after your estate as long as there is no evidence that you destroyed your Will on purpose with the intention of revoking it. However, it is much easier for the executor if they are able to find your original Will. Can I make changes to my Will in the future? You can’t change your Will by handwriting changes on it. If you do so you will create a mess for your executor and it is unlikely that your changes will be legally valid. If your Will no longer reflects your wishes you need to make a new Will to replace the old one. Technically you can prepare a Will amending document known as a "Codicil" but it is a better idea to prepare a new Will. How often should I review my Will? We recommend that you take a look at your Will once a year to make sure that it still meets your needs. However, your Will could last for decades if your wishes and circumstances don’t change. For example, if you are married and make a Will after your children are adults, you may never need to make another Will even if 50 years goes by. Can you send me a Will Kit?
